Shrey Bhardwaj from local Ferndale Table Tennis club participated in 2014 Wiltshire County Table Tennis Championships held on Sunday 2nd March 2014 at Dauntsey’s School, Devizes and after a long day, ended up winning all the Junior titles being played for. Shrey’s first title win of the day came in the Under-18 Doubles category where he joined hands with his club-partner Conor Mc Gilligan.
Next up was the big one, the Under-18 Singles category in which he was seeded second. In the finals, Shrey played the number 1 seed Chris Satchell. The match was closely watched by everyone and was even more closely and tensely contested by the two players. Shrey overcame a 2-1 deficit to equalize and then went on to win the coveted Under-18 Singles title in the deciding set. Having won both the Singles and Doubles titles in the higher age-group, Shrey played next in the Under-15 Singles category, in which he was the defending champion from last year. The additional pressure notwithstanding, Shrey won the finals against Charlie Joyce in 3 straight sets 11-4, 11-9, 14-12 to clinch his 3rd title of the day and to hold on to the WTTA House Cup.
It is also noteworthy that the day before, on Saturday 1st March 2014, Shrey played for the Gloucester-B team in the final leg of the National Junior League held further up in the north at Wood Green Sports Academy, Wednesbury and guided his team to emerge as the Division 2 Winners. Congratulations to Shrey Bhardwaj on his well-deserved, hard-fought victories.
